How often have you heard you must “lift heavy” to protect your bones?
What if you’ve never been a gym rat and you’re trying to be preventative with your health before you hit menopause? Does this advice apply to you?
What if your form isn’t perfect? Do all personal trainers know the ideal form? I know I’ve often hurt and I pushed to do things that didn’t feel right in my body.
What if you have specific genetic issues that may predispose you to more problems than most?
What if you’re one of those that has pretty extreme fluctuations in hormones during the latter stages of perimenopause? Menopause?
So, what I am saying is that this blanket advice you hear over and over again from doctors & wellness influencers who take a one-size-fits-all approach, well, they’re just looking at the research, not at you personally and your situation. Many of us listen to them and the research without looking within. I’ve damaged myself by listening to the research instead of listening to myself and what’s too much.
When you hear all this research being regurgitated online, be proactive about your own health, sure. Understand your unique situation and discuss it with your practitioners who know you. And then turn inward to decide if the advice makes sense for you.
I’ve recorded many episodes on my other podcast Sandy K Nutrition Health & Lifestyle Queen, about hormones, bones and more. Find out where to follow here:
