When Sensitivity Is a Superpower: The Science and Soul of Deep Feelers
Don't ever "feel" like being called "too sensitive" is a problem with you...you're magic, my beauties.
I’m going to ask you to do something before you read another word.
Look at your thumbs. Not the nail. Not the cuticle. The inner pad - the soft, fleshy part near the lower joint crease.
Do you see an oval, or a small eye-shaped pattern in the skin ridges?
If you do, you have the Phoenix Eye. A dermatoglyphic marking. A fingerprint-like pattern that forms in utero between weeks 10 and 16 - during the same developmental window as your limbic system, your insula, your amygdala, and your mirror-neuron system.
Only 3–5% of people have it on one of their thumbs. Only 1–2% have it on both.
This week’s episode is unlike anything I’ve done before. Actually, I’m not sure why I keep saying this…most of my podcast topics are true originals - not the same “experts-on-repeat”. Instead, unique topics to help you explore your mind and body yourself.
My episode this week began with a question I couldn’t stop thinking about: why do some people feel everything so much more intensely? Not as a flaw. Not as something to manage, medicate, or apologize for. But as a neurological reality - wired in before you were born. Why am I like this?
What I found goes deep. It moves through the science of empathy, the genetics of sensitivity, the shadow side of feeling too much, and the unexpected teachers we walk past every day without realizing what they’re showing us.
It also explains something I’ve quietly believed for a long time: that the people who feel the most are often the ones who’ve been told the loudest to feel less.
I want to be clear about something. This episode is not about personality types or wellness buzzwords. I don’t do that.
This is the biology of why some people absorb the room when they walk in. Why some people can’t unknow what they sense. Why some of us are incredibly good at identifying patterns. Why the same nervous system that makes you extraordinary at connection is the one that leaves you wrecked when someone betrays you.
There is a shadow side to this. And I go there too - the part no one talks about. What happens when empathy becomes something you give at the expense of yourself. Where the line is. When to stop. How to stop?

And if you have the Phoenix Eye - on one thumb or both - I want to know. Leave me a comment or send me a message. I’m conducting my own little survey, and what fascinates me is that many of my Instagram followers do, too.
You were never too much. You were just never given the right explanation for what you actually are. You’re amazing just the way you are and you’re magic. You simply haven’t been given the tools on how to work with it.
