Drainage Before Detox
Why your cleanse made you feel worse and the step very few are talking about
Let me ask you something.
Have you ever done a detox - a juice cleanse, a three-day reset, the tea with the coupon code - and somewhere around day two felt genuinely terrible? Headachey. Broken out. A little flu-ish. Achy for no reason.
And do you remember what someone told you it meant?
“That’s the toxins leaving. It’s working.”
I need you to sit with that for a second, because this Monday’s episode is built entirely around why that sentence is one of the most misunderstood ideas in all of wellness, and why believing it might be the exact reason detoxing has never worked for you.
Here’s what I’ll say now, and then I’m going to make you listen for the rest.
That awful, crashy, why-do-I-feel-worse feeling? In a lot of cases, it isn’t the toxins leaving your body at all.
It’s more likely the toxins getting stuck on the way out.
There’s a step almost nobody talks about. It comes before detox. It’s not sexy, there’s no before-and-after photo, and this is the real reason you’ve never heard of it - there’s no influencer getting rich off selling it to you. But if you skip it, you can do everything “right” and still feel like garbage. And then you decide detoxing just isn’t for you, when the truth is you skipped the entire first act.
In this episode, I’m pulling the whole thing apart in plain language. I’ll walk you through what your body is actually doing every second of every day without asking your permission, the exits it uses to get waste out, and the one drainage route that no green juice on earth can substitute for. I’ll explain to you the order these systems have to open in, and why getting that order wrong is why people aren’t getting the benefit and might be making things worse instead.
And then I go somewhere the tea companies never will: what changes in all of this after 40. Because your detox systems do not stay the same your whole life, and for women in perimenopause and menopause, there’s a hormonal layer stacked on top that hits the single most important drainage route most directly. Nobody’s connecting those dots for you. I am.
I’ll also tell you about the cysts I had under my arm, what I did, and what my own body taught me about all of this. And yes, we’re going to talk about the emotional side too. What are you holding that wants to move through you? Because stagnation isn’t only physical, my friends. It never is.
This is body, mind, spirit, soul. Science and soul. The way I always do it here.
I’m not going to give you the mechanism in this post. I want you to actually understand it, in order, in my voice, the way I built it, so that the next time someone waves a three-day cleanse in your face promising to scrub you clean, you hear me in your head going: hmm… but did I open the doors first?
Because here’s the reframe that changes everything, and it’s the closest thing to a spoiler you’re getting from me today:
You are not a dirty pipe that needs scrubbing.
You’re living terrain that wants to flow.
